Summer Student Work Program

Officially initiated in January 2009, the Summer Student Work program is a campaign put in place to aid in hiring informed, capable and motivated individuals for summer-season work who are engaged in post-secondary studies during the rest of the year.

Employment runs from April to August, with potential for re-hire in following years. In addition, beyond summer work, there are opportunities for long-term employment with Alberta Highway Services Ltd.

The job function at AHSL is to provide communities with the necessary labour required to improve and maintain Alberta’s highways. Different tasks include:

  • Spray patch road repair
  • Guardrail installation
  • Crack sealing
  • Sign installation

A summer position with AHSL will stand out from other job experiences because:

  • The learning curve is manageable through teamwork and group efforts
  • Every team member works hard and is offered recognition for progress and accomplishments
  • The opportunity to work from the road will provide you with personal growth experiences
  • AHSL will support your post-secondary goals, financially – through great hours and wages – and more
